Douglas fir from Oregon was used in the Portland Oregon home and their Sektion Ikea kitchen. Shaker style using solid wood for the uppers and lowers. The uppers are painted with Devine paint. The home owners wanted their kitchen remodel to have natural local wood and the tradition look of a painted shaker style. The Ikea doors match the older homes trim and solid wood doors as well.
We created open shelving matching IKEA's Akurum Soffielund kitchen cabinets. The Ikea open shelves are 2.5" thick but are made hollow to allow the under shelf task lighting to be installed. It is a great way to get indirect light right where you need it.

We use a natural wood veneer with Armorcore plywood. Armorcore creates a beautiful flat finish for us to work with. We created a similar style to the Ramsjo cabinet, but used a solid body oil based paint rather than their typical white washed stain.
